About my Music

Sri is a Carnatic violinist whose music reflects both deep lineage and the spirit of curiosity. A disciple of Sangita Kalanidhi Lalgudi GJR Krishnan, Vidwan Vittal Ramamurthy, and Vidwan Vishaal Sapuram, Sri carries forward the elegance and emotional depth of the Lalgudi bani, blending it with his own explorations of poetry, history, and language.

Performing during his early years alongside masters such as Padma Shankar, V. V. Ramanamurthy, T.S. Krishnamurthy, and guru Vittal Ramamurthy challenged him to develop the technical mastery of an accompanist and to find his own voice as a soloist. Equally at home in traditional repertoire and in improvisational forms like the Ragam Tanam Pallavi, Sri brings sensitivity to rhythm and melody that resonates across diverse audiences. His performances have spanned renowned venues in India such as Narada Gana Sabha, Vani Mahal, and Tirumnala Tirupati Devasthanam and prestigious stages in America like the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, where he introduced Carnatic improvisation to Western classical listeners.

Currently completing a master's degree at the University of Chicago Divinity School on the way to a PhD at the University of Toronto, Sri integrates their scholarly study of Sanskrit, Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada texts with his musical practice. This dual path allows him to uncover overlooked compositions, including rare javalis and historical works that expand the Carnatic canon beyond devotional themes, as well to collaborate with musicians and dancers from a wide range of historical and contemporary traditions. His performances feel like conversations—between artist and audience, tradition and innovation, past and present.
